Grants from the Martin Memorial Fund
Donations to individuals or organizations who are involved with conservation oriented research or projects are periodically awarded from the GCHS. The donations are awarded in the form of grants from the GCHS "Martin Memorial Fund".Monies in the Martin Memorial Fund are generated from outreach programs and other GCHS fund-raising events.Those who believe they are eligible for grants must submit a formal application. The following grants have been awarded since 2003:
Eastern Indigo Snake Research Grants:
Two grants from the Martin Memorial Fund were issued to research
scientists conducting radio-telemetry studies on the federally threatened Eastern Indigo Snake in Florida and Georga. A grant to assist in a Florida study was issued in 2003, and another to assist a Georgia study in 2004.
Timber Rattlesnake Research in Kentucky
In 2005, a grant was issued to assist in radio-tracking Timber Rattlesnakes in Eastern Kentucky.
Black Pine Snake Research
A grant was issued in early 2006 to assist in research with the state-endangered Black Pine Snake in Mississippi. The grant helped replace damaged field equipment at a study site that was badly damaged by hurricane Katrina.
