Date: Sunday March 14th 2010
Event: Habitat Restoration at Cedar Bog
Location: Cedar Bog, 980 Woodburn Road, Urbana, OH 43078
What are we doing?
Removing woody plants (small trees and brush) that are filling in the open areas preferred by many species from areas around the bog.
Why are we doing this?
Without this type of effort these critical open areas would disappear over time as they were filled in by the woody vegetation.
Who can participate? >
Any current Greater Cincinnati Herpetological Society member in good standing and their immediate family (spouse, son, daughter) are invited to participate. If you are interested in participating and are NOT currently a member in good standing, please email [email protected] to obtain a membership form and more information on how you can participate.
Where are we meeting?
We will be meeting at 8:00 AM at the Meijer store located at: 7390 Tylersville Rd 45069. This store is off of I-75, Tylersville rd exit #22. LET?S MEET NEAR THE GAS STATION OF THE MEIJER STORE AS WE DID LAST TIME. We will figure out the car-pooling from there.
What?s the Plan?
It will take approx 1 hr, 15 minutes to get to Cedar Bog from there, so we will depart promptly at 8:10 AM, in order to start working at 9:30 AM. The plan is to work until approx. 2:30 PM (with a break for lunch in there), or until we are collectively ?done?!
What do I need to wear/bring?
Warm clothes that are ok to get muddy
Work gloves (multiple pairs if possible)
Boots that will get muddy (waders if you have them)
Food / Drink (we will bring snacks and drinks, but bring your own if you want anything other than that?we will not leave the grounds for lunch)
TOOLS to bring if you have access to them:
Loppers (great tool for this job, bring extras if you have them), axes, cutters?brush axes, machetes, bow saws, chain saws (only if you are experienced!), or any other tools to cut twigs, vines, small to med trees. Bring only tools you are familiar using, we do not want anyone to get hurt and all work will be done at your own risk.
Hope to See You There!
