THE REPTILE AND AMPHIBIAN ADVENTURE IN THE LAND OF THE GREAT SNAKE.
For registration, schedule of events and other information, click here
Reptiles, turtles, and amphibians have always been an important part of the ecosystem and culture of southern Ohio. Early inhabitants constructed the Great Serpent Mound and left behind beautiful effigy pipes in the shapes of toads and frogs. Our herpetofauna are still an important component of our ecosystems and culture. Come join us in search of the creatures that inspired the early inhabitants of this land. You will feel like a kid again rambling through our woods, fields, and wetlands in search of snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, toads, and salamanders.
Featured speaker for the conference will be Joseph T. Collins, co-author of the "Peterson Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians of Eastern and Central North America." Joe, a former buckeye, is now the herpetologist with the Kansas Biological Survey, University of Kansas, Lawrence.
Field trips will be held and led by Joe Collins and Jerry Collins, and by other prominent Ohio herpetologists such as Doug Wynn, Larry Cartmill, Scott Moody, Mark Zloba, Jon Bedick, Jeff Davis, Greg Lipps, Mike Goodwin, and Ralph Pfingsten.
Lodge rooms are limited, so it is best to bring a friend to bunk with (also saves you money). There are also 13 cottages available for reservation -- each sleeps 6 comfortably. The campground is another option. If the lodge runs out of space, the Ramada in Portsmouth is offering the same special rate. When you call to make reservations, specify you are with the Herpetology Conference.
We welcome poster presentations related to amphibians, turtles, and reptiles. Submit proposals with registration forms. It will be a great weekend filled with excitement and learning. All other information should be on the pdf, but if you have any other questions please feel free to contact:
