May 2009 Meeting: Brittany Gibson: Herpetology Weekend 2009: Herping in Red River Gorge
Date: | May 6, 2009 |
Time: | 7:00pm |
Location: | Cincinnati Nature Center, Rowe Woods directions |
Brittany Gibson grew up in Southern Ohio and ended up in Bowling Green, Ohio where she met her now fianc?, Matt Fille. Brittany never really had a love for herps, in fact she had no real exposure to reptiles until her early twenties. She will never forget the first time Matt brought her home to Cincinnati to ?meet his family?. After walking in the door and saying hi to his parents, Matt took Brittany to the back of the house and said, ?Let?s go meet the family!? Much to her surprise, it was a room full of reptiles.
Since moving to Cincinnati in May of 2007, Brittany has become active with the Greater Cincinnati Herpetological Society by helping with educational programs, planning society trips, and most recently taking on the position of editor of the society?s newsletter. Brittany is looking forward to seeing the continued growth of our society and its members.
During her presentation at the May meeting, Brittany plans to share a collection of photos, stories, and experiences from Natural Bridge State Park?s past three Herpetology Weekends, as well as a few other random trips to Red River Gorge. She will be focusing on reptiles and amphibians local to Powell County, KY which is where the majority of her photos were taken. Brittany has enlisted the help of Matt Fille, Jim Harrison, Marc Frevola, and the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Website for a complete listing of all reptiles and amphibians local to Red River Gorge, photographs, and assistance with identification of animals photographed.
