We are pleased to announce that the February Speaker will Be Dr. Dan Meakin of the All Creatures Animal Hospital. All Creatures is located in Amelia and has a satellite clinic in Anderson. Dr. Dan is a long-time member of the GCHS, and has provided many programs for us in past years.
Dr. Dan graduated from the Ohio State University Veterinary College in 1989. Following graduation, Dr. Dan began a one year internship at the West Los Angeles Veterinary Medical Center. During the internship, Dr. Dan had opportunities to work closely with veterinarians specializing in gastroenterology, surgery, oncology and opthalmology. These experiences broadened his clinical knowledge base and taught Dr Dan skills in handling a variety of cases. Dr Dan first became interested in herps when he was born and was influenced by the late and great George Mcduffie and his first teenager job at the original Reptile World in Mt Washington. Dan became a member of the GCHS when he was 12 and there where only a few gathered in a room at the old museum on Gilbert. Dr dan has traveled to Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Africa in recent years trying to find exotic herps. Dan has raised, caught, and had some experience with most north American herps, as well as Boids, Iguanas, Tortoises, and turtles. Besides reptiles, Dr. Dan also has a strong interest in exotic pets including birds, ferrets, rabbits and rodents. Currently Dan is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Reptile Veterinarians. When not playing music or practicing veterinary medicine, Dan prefers to vacation where herp opportunities exist so he can persuade his 5 children to accompany him on herping field trips.
